Naming as a system is elaborate in in traditional African societies as a cultural norm. The different modes of naming ranges from people' s names, places, activities,
events, things such as mountains, forests and others.
Besides being an institution of higher learning,Kenyatta university is broadly a social and cultural center. This is evident as stractures and places in KU are given names that include norminal reincanation, positive names, historical names among others.
Among the most pronounced stractures and places include The Moi library, the popular Nyayo hostels,Olemoiyoi  lecturer halls, the Bishop square,Cassandria walk,Ngong" hostel,Kilimambogo hostel,Longonot hostel name them.
The above names carry various cultural meanings. This is to incalcate morality in society to enable people have positive impact toward their leaders, environment conservation, honnor of prominent people and those who have contributed greatly towards the being of K.U.
firstly, the names acquired through moral integrity of key personalities and contributers towards ku"achievents. Here are names like Moi library named after the immediate former president of Kenya-Daniel Arab Moi.Other names carry historical information, the Nyayo hostels were brought up during the Nyayo era.The 8-4-4 Brock acts as a reminder of the beginning of the current education system in Kenya.
Other strructurers are named after important things seen to be culturerly sacred and a source of crucial resources to people. Here we have ngong"i hostel named aftrer ngong" Hills,Longonot hostel named after mount Longonot in Naivasha,Kilimambogo hostel named after Mount kilimambogo in Thika.
This shows that Kenyatta university as an African community has beliefs in african culturer.Thi s is so because these places-mountains and forests and are a source of live-water.
Besides other reasons therefore,Kenyatta university has every reason to have its culture week annually as itself-k.u is all about culture.

Untold Stories in KU

 by
Antony nyamache(nyamacheantony@yahoo.com)

Like any other year in the Kenyatta University calender the orientation for first year students 2011 was on .This is a time when new students-indeed new in KU heard about the university Radio Station KU99.9 fm.
Some two ladies popularly fresh chicks in campus counted themselves luck among the lack it ones. They hoped to listen  to the station programmes live.
After a search which involved try and error, finally they landed along the Arts Complex Road where the station is situated. In fact they wanted to listen one on one from the station without tuning on to the radio0 without knowing the reality
Due to the disappointments they tried to inquire if the station activities were on that day and if they were why dint they hear the presenters talk and the music play as they even moved closer the Twin Towers-the building where the station is!
Finally they came to be told the reality that Radio stations operate by the use of waves and you can never hear the activities inside even if you incline your ears on to the door to the station. This is why radios operate by the use of frequencies to reach the far people as far as immediate neighbours and offices next
