Excitement reigned Kenyatta University on Friday as President Mwai
Kibaki graced the official opening of the post modern library and the
groundbreaking ceremony of the proposed teaching,research and referral
hospital.The new library boasts a shelf capacity of 600,000 books and a
sitting capacity of 5,000 students.It also has adaptive technology for
users with special needs.The library is fully automated and uses natural
light hence envirnmental friendly.The Vice Chancellor,Professor Olive
Mugenda, said that the library was designed to provide information needs
for the ever increasing number of students in Kenyatta University.The
President congratulated the Vice Chancellor for her dedication in
improving the learning process and cited the completion of the library
as an important milestone for the university.He assured the government's
commitment in
supporting education facilities to realise their full potential."The
proposed research and referral hospital is geared towards realising
vision 2030 in ensuring the provision of quality healthcare to all",said
the President.He challenged institutions of higher learning to maintain
high quality of education that is relevant to the job market.Finally
the President advised students to take themselves seriously and shun
vices such as drinking that may interfere with their enormous potential
and future prospects in life.
